Sonoma Veggie Burgers

Our Diamonds in the Rough:

Amy's Sonoma Veggie Burger

Browsing the shelves for veggie options based on traditional dishes has commonly turned up products that rely heavily on soy. Trying to eliminate this from the diet can feel a bit daunting at times. Plus, when you finally find your soy-free treasure it can fail the gluten-free or dairy-free dietary guidelines an increasing number of the population are finding themselves behind.

With this in mind I put it out to the universe to find a burger alternative that matched my criteria completely. Believe it or not, days later I happened to be in the supermarket when I found the Sonoma burger. It is not only soy, gluten, and dairy free (vegan actually), but it is based on quinoa.

Quinoa is a very unique grain-like crop that is a complete protein, contains essential amino acids, and is rich in calcium, phosphorus, and iron. I was thrilled to see a company choose something that is so healthy for the body, while also getting away from some of our common dietary challengers.

This veggie burger has a rich nutty flavor, with an undertone of veggie.  The Sonoma burger does fall apart if overcooked so beware. I have used this traditionally, as well as shredded up in potato dishes, pasta dishes (used as meatballs when spiced up), veggie meatloaf, or as a go-along with a meal of steamed vegetables. Be creative and let your culinary spirit free.
